With AI in the Automation Builder, you can type out what you want your automation to do with a prompt, and the AI builder will build the automation. This will help you build automations faster, with fewer clicks, and create relevant automations to help you achieve your goals.

This article will describe how to utilize AI within the Automations Builder, what functionality is currently supported, and commonly asked questions.

How it works

AI for automation building is developed to kick start, translate, and streamline the automation build & design process. Using this tool will allow you to type out what you want your automation to do in the form of a prompt (link to section below). With your prompt, AI will identify the relevant actions necessary to achieve this result and begin building out the automation for you.

How to use AI in the Automation Builder

  1. Open a new or existing automation.
  2. Select the AI Builder tab in the Builder Sidebar.

  3. Set your automation to Inactive. The AI Builder will not be available in Active automations.
  4. Select the (+) node in the automation where you want to add new actions. Once selected, it will be highlighted in blue, and the prompt input will be shown.

  5. Click into the text input field and type in your prompt. Learn more about Prompting.
  6. Click “Submit” or Enter on your keyboard.
    • Note that it will take some time to translate your prompt into actions to be added to the automation. It’s important to keep in mind that the longer or more complex the prompt, the longer it will take to return the actions.
  7. Once the AI Builder is done translating, actions based on your prompt will appear in your automation with a success message listing out what was added.

    • Note that we will return an error if the prompt is unable to generate a valid set of actions. Learn more about Unsupported Actions if you are unsure why certain actions may not have been added.
  8. After actions are added, you can “Undo” the changes added by the AI Builder using the Revision History to roll back to the previous version of the automation.
    • Note that the AI Builder will create a unique entry in the Revision History that can be used to roll back any changes made using the AI Builder at any time.

Prompting

Prompting is when you type out what you want your automation to do in your own words. Because this is an open-ended text input, you can type in just about anything, and we will try our best to return a valid set of automation actions. While we expect to return accurate results based on submitted prompts, there will be variance and unpredictable outcomes at times.

Here are best practices for getting the most reliable results:

List-based Prompts

This is the most accurate way to prompt using the AI Builder, which is very simple. All you have to do is type out a list of the actions you want to add.

Examples

  • Send an email, wait a day, and add a tag
  • Create a deal, add a task, wait a day, and update the deal
  • Subscribe to list and add a contact note

Numbered List Prompts

Using numbered lists is a great way to list out commonly repeated actions in a basic sentence structure. This is most commonly used with basic messaging and tasking sequences.

Examples

  • Send 3 emails with a wait in between
  • Create a deal and assign 4 tasks over 3 days
  • Send 4 SMS messages over 2 weeks

Actions & Configurations

Unsupported Actions

Most automation actions can be added using AI in the automation builder, but there are a few that are not supported. We are working to support all relevant actions for this experience, here is a list of actions we do not support currently support:

  • CX Apps Actions
  • If/Else Action
  • Split Action
  • Go To Action

Action Configuration

There are certain actions that we allow users to configure from within a prompt. This allows users to declare specific details related to an action that will be saved alongside the addition of the action.

Action Configuration
Wait The time duration for a given Wait (i.e. Wait for 5 days)
Add Tag The name of the Tag to add (i.e. Add a “New Customer” Tag)
Remove Tag The name of the Tag to remove (i.e. Remove a “New Customer” Tag)
Subscribe to List The name of the List to subscribe contacts to (i.e. Subscribe to “Master Contact” List)
Unsubscribe from List The name of the List to unsubscribe contacts from (i.e. Subscribe to “Master Contact” List)
Goal Name The name of the Goal to add (i.e. Add a Goal of “Subscribed”)

When using actions that require a named input (i.e. a tag, list or goal), wrapping the input in quotes (“name”) will be most effective in ensuring that the correct item is configured in the action from the prompt provided. For example, "Add a 3 day wait and then add a “Nurturing” tag."
