About email send limits and overage fees

We won't disrupt your service if your total email sends exceeds your monthly limit. Instead, you are charged an overage fee for that month. To avoid the overage fee, you can increase your monthly email send limit.

In this article, you will learn about email send limits, overage fees, and how to increase your email send limit.

Take note

  • Only Primary Admins and users with billing permissions can update email send limits on an account
  • Email send limits apply to direct and automated campaigns. This does not include 1:1 or transactional emails

About email send limits

An email send limit is the maximum number of email campaigns that can be sent per month based on your plan.

As you approach or reach your email send limit, you can increase it. Doing so lets you continue sending emails without disruption and helps you avoid any overage fees.

Plans and email send limits

See the two tables below to understand the email send limit for each plan.

Plans purchased between October 20, 2023 and June 2, 2024:

Email send limit resets

If you are on a monthly plan, the email send limit resets on the first day of your monthly billing cycle.

If you are on a yearly plan, the email send limit resets on the same day of the month as your annual billing cycle.

Notifications and email send limit thresholds

An in-app notification appears in your account when you are at 75%, 90%, and 100% of your monthly email send capacity. This notification is visible to all account users and appears on the following pages: your account dashboard, Campaigns Overview, and Automations Overview.

While all users can see this notification, only the Primary Admin and users with billing permissions can update the email send limit.

In addition to the in-app notifications, the Primary Admin will receive an email when the account is 75% and 100% of its email capacity. Users with billing permissions are not sent this email notification.

If your email sending limit is not increased once you’re at capacity, you are charged $0.005 per email send.

Note that if the overage value of sends reaches three times your limit, email sending functionality is turned off until next month.

Billing for email send limit increases

Monthly plans: You are charged a prorated amount for the month and then charged on a monthly basis. This is reflected in your monthly bill.

Annual plans: You are charged a prorated amount for the year. Then, the charges are reflected in your annual bill.

How to increase your monthly email send limit

From the in-app notification:

  1. Click the “Increase sending limit” button on the in-app notification.
  2. A modal window will appear. Use the dropdown to select how many monthly emails you need. Note that the modal displays the cost based on your plan.
  3. Click the “Review changes” button.
  4. Click the “Confirm purchase” button.

A notification will appear on the top right corner of your account that confirms your purchase.

From the Billing & Upgrade page:

  1. Navigate to the Billing & Upgrade page by clicking your account avatar > Billing & Upgrade on the bottom left corner of your account.
  2. Click “Edit” next to your monthly email send:

  3. A modal window will appear. Use the dropdown to select how many monthly emails you need. Note that the modal displays the cost based on your plan.
  4. Click the “Update email limit” button.
  5. The “Review Purchase” modal will summarize the updates. Click “Confirm purchase” to complete the update.

View your monthly email send usage

You can view your monthly email send usage at any time. To do so:

  1. Navigate to the Billing & Upgrade page by clicking your account avatar > Billing & Upgrade on the bottom left corner of your account.
  2. Click the "Usage" tab at the top of the page.
  3. On the Usage page, we display your current plan, plan limits, and usage of active contacts, users, and monthly email sends.
  4. To increase your monthly email sending limit, follow the instructions above, or click the "Manage email sending limit" link on the Usage page, then follow the prompts to complete your purchase.
