[Video] How do I add a default value to a personalization tag?

 

 

In ActiveCampaign, all contact fields (all plan tiers) and most deal fields (Plus, Professional, and Enterprise tiers) have corresponding personalization tags. Inserting these tags into campaigns and automation emails will display dynamic content specific to the recipient and/or their deal. This can result in a personalized experience for your contacts and increased engagement with your content.  

However, if a field value is blank in ActiveCampaign for a contact field or custom deal field, dynamic content will not display in the email. Instead, the recipient will see a blank space in their communication where the content should be. 

In order to avoid this situation, we recommend adding default values to any contact fields and/or custom deal fields that you'll be using the most in your communications. 

Note that custom deal fields are available on Plus, Professional, and Enterprise plans only. It is not possible to add default values to standard deal fields.

To add a default value to a contact field or custom deal field:

  1. Click either "Lists" or "Forms" in the left menu. 
  2. Click "Manage fields."
  3. Click the "Contacts" tab on the Manage Fields page to add a default value to a contact field. Click the "Deals" tab to add a default value to a custom deal field.
  4. Locate the field you wish to add a default value to and click "Edit."
  5. Type the default value into the field provided and click "Save."

Default values will not be applied to contact profile pages or deal records but will render in your communications.
