Use automation in ActiveCampaign to send WhatsApp messages to contacts.

Take note

  • You must set up the WhatsApp integration with Spoki to send outbound messages with WhatsApp
  • This integration is currently available to ActiveCampaign customers in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa
  • ActiveCampaign customers must be on a paid Spoki plan
  • Before you can use this integration, you will need to apply for activation of the Spoki platform. You must have the following: a VAT number, a website, and a Facebook Business Manager account. Follow the directions on the “How to Activate Spoki” page to activate your account

Send outbound WhatsApp messages using ActiveCampaign automation

Set up your approved WhatsApp template inside Spoki to obtain your Automation ID. The Automation ID determines which WhatsApp message is sent to the recipient from ActiveCampaign.

Open up multiple windows when setting up the integration as you will need to copy and paste Step IDs and Automation IDs.

  1. Set up your WhatsApp template inside Spoki:
    • Log into your Spoki account
    • Create your WhatsApp “template” message in the following path: Menu > Templates > New
    • Give a title to your message
    • Click “Save” and wait for approval by WhatsApp (it can take up to 48 hours)
    • After the approval of the message, you can create a new automation in Spoki
  2. Set up your Spoki automation inside Spoki:
    • From Spoki, click “Automations”
    • Click the “Create” button located on the top right
    • Title your Automation, then click “Save”
    • Click “Add Trigger” > “Integration” >“ActiveCampaign”
    • Copy the Automation ID, then click “Close”
    • On the same screen, click “Your Automation Action” to add an automatic message
    • Click “Send Template” in the “Action type” section
    • Scroll down to the “Send Template” section. Select the WhatsApp template you would like to use. Click “Add”
    • You will see a preview of your template. Then click “Save” on the top right corner

Ensure the workflow is labeled as “Active” to the left of the “Save” button.

  3. Authenticate your Spoki account and set up your WhatsApp Automation inside of ActiveCampaign:
    • Log into your ActiveCampaign account
    • Click “Automations” on the left menu, then click the “Create an automation” button
    • If you know what trigger you want to use, select that trigger instead of “Start without a trigger.” Click “CX Apps” on the right panel and scroll down to “Spoki - Start a Whatsapp Automation”

If you build the automation with the “Start without a trigger” option, you can manually add a contact to it so they can proceed through your workflow.

    • Drag the action block to the “+” sign.
    • A Spoki modal will appear. Enter the secret for your Spoki account, then click “Connect”
    • Once your Spoki account is connected, select the account
    • Paste the Automation ID from Step 2 into the box. Click “Finish”
  4. Title your automation.
  5. Set your automation to “Active.”

When a contact enters your automation, they will be sent a WhatsApp message.

As a best practice, we recommend responding to all incoming messages within 24 hours. This can be done from contact or deal records in ActiveCampaign, or from your Spoki account.

Use Spoki to verify that your outbound message from ActiveCampaign was sent

  1. Log into Spoki.
  2. Click “Automations,” then click the number icon to the right of your template. You will see a timestamp record of the conversation.
  3. Click the timestamp record.
  4. Click “Go to Chat” on the top. A window will display the WhatsApp Message sent to the contact.
