This integration is no longer available for new customers. To use WhatsApp with ActiveCampaign, check out our WhatsApp Messaging help articles.
Hilos is an end-to-end WhatsApp automation platform with broadcast messaging, chat automation, and a two-way conversation inbox.
Once you connect the Hilos integration, you can sync new and updated contacts from Hilos to ActiveCampaign and sync new and updated contacts to Hilos with an automation action. Doing so lets you move contacts in ActiveCampaign to WhatsApp flows in Hilos and freely move contacts between WhatsApp flows and ActiveCampaign automations.

How the Hilos integration works
The integration setup takes place in your ActiveCampaign account. After configuring the integration, contact records from Hilos will sync to ActiveCampaign immediately, along with any mapped custom fields.
As new contacts with an email address are added to Hilos, they sync to ActiveCampaign automatically.
You will also have access to new ActiveCampaign automation and Hilos flow actions, perform a manual bulk sync from ActiveCampaign to Hilos, and segment contacts in ActiveCampaign by the new Hilos-related contact tag.
Contact syncing
When we sync data from Hilos, a contact record is created in ActiveCampaign if one does not yet exist. This includes syncing contacts to ActiveCampaign using Hilos flow actions or when you complete the integration setup. Only contacts with an email address in Hilos can sync to ActiveCampaign.
You can also sync contacts to Hilos through a manual bulk sync or automation actions.
Contact tag in ActiveCampaign
As contacts sync to and from ActiveCampaign, the following tag will appear on their contact records in ActiveCampaign:
Hilos-whatsapp-integration
You can use this tag to segment contacts in ActiveCampaign.
Automation actions in ActiveCampaign
When you complete the integration setup, you can access the following automation actions in ActiveCampaign.
If a contact does not yet exist in Hilos, a record will be created for them, and then the automation action will process. In addition, if a contact record does exist with information in a mapped field, ActiveCampaign will overwrite this data.
For contacts to sync to Hilos, they must have a valid E164 WhatsApp number in ActiveCampaign. If a phone number is missing, the contact will skip the automation action and not sync to Hilos.
“Add Contact to Hilos” automation action
Sync a contact to Hilos when they reach this action in your automation.
“Add Contact to Hilos Flow” automation action
Add a contact to an active or published Hilos flow to receive WhatsApp messages when they reach this action in your automation. Contacts will skip this action if the Hilos flow is inactive or not published.
Flow actions in Hilos
When you complete the integration setup, you can access the following flow actions in Hilos.
For any of these flow actions to process, contacts must have an email address in Hilos. In addition, if a contact does not yet exist in ActiveCampaign, a record will be created for them, and then the flow action will process.
“Get ActiveCampaign Contact” flow action
Fetch personalized details about an ActiveCampaign contact for segmenting or message variables.
“Enter Automation” flow action
Add a contact to an ActiveCampaign automation so they can receive marketing messages or perform tasks.
“End Automation” flow action
Remove a contact from an ActiveCampaign automation.
Sync contacts to Hilos
You can sync contacts to Hilos with a manual bulk sync or with ActiveCampaign automation.
Outbound manual bulk sync
You can perform a manual bulk sync of contacts from ActiveCampaign to Hilos with a click of a button.
When the sync runs, all contacts with a valid phone number will sync to Hilos.
We use the mapping you configure during the initial connection step to determine which fields to sync from ActiveCampaign to Hilos.
To locate this button, click WhatsApp on the left menu in your ActiveCampaign account, then click the “Sync Contacts” button.
Automation sync
- In ActiveCampaign, click Automations on the left menu.
- Create a new automation or edit an existing one.
-
Click “Add a start trigger” and select the option you want to use.
- Recommendation: Use the “Contact is Updated” trigger and select the “Phone” field. This syncs contacts who have their phone number field added or updated to Hilos
- Click the node (+) to add an action.
- Type “Hilos” into the search field.
- Select either Hilos action.
- If you have not yet connected your Hilos account to ActiveCampaign, you can do so in this step. Otherwise, select your Hilos account, then click “Save.”
- When you are finished building your automation, activate it.
As contacts enter your workflow and reach your Hilos action, they will sync to Hilos along with their data and mapped fields.
