With ActiveCampaign’s AI Translations for Email feature, you can send personalized email campaigns in each subscriber’s language with one send. Doing so helps you drive engagement, build trust, and increase conversions across global audiences with ease.

Take Note

  • AI Translations for Email supports 75 languages
  • You must purchase Activities to use this feature
  • Each translated campaign send uses one Activity. If you send an email campaign with AI Translations to 200 contacts, 50 of which will receive a translated version of the campaign, then it would cost 50 Activities. There is no additional charge for contacts receiving the original text language of the campaign
  • We recommend generating translations after finalizing your email content. Modifying the original campaign will require you to regenerate all translations from scratch
  • We strongly recommend you review each translated email for accuracy before sending it to your contacts
  • AI Translations for Email is only available with the “Standard” campaign type in the Email Designer builder

How AI Translations for Email works

You can turn on translations for each standard email campaign you create using the Email Designer. This option is located on the campaign summary page.

Once you enable this feature, our system will detect the preferred language of each contact in your list and generate the appropriate translation.

Once the translations are generated, you can view each language and edit the content and images. When you’re ready, you can send the campaign to your subscribers.

How do we check for a preferred language?

We check the language selected in the “Preferred Language” field for each contact. This field is automatically created for new accounts purchased on or after June 24, 2025, and Resold accounts created on or after November 19, 2025.

For accounts purchased before June 24, 2025 (Resold accounts created before November 19, 2025), you need to create a “Preferred Language” custom field. To do so:

  1. Click Contacts > Fields on the left menu.
  2. Click the “Add Field” button.
  3. A modal window will appear:
    • Type “Preferred Language” as the field name
    • Select the field group
    • Select “Language” as the field type
    • Click the “Add” button

If you already have a field that tracks a contact’s preferred language, you need to map it to the newly created “Preferred Language” field. Note that your existing language field must be in a dropdown field format to map successfully.

To map your existing field to your newly created “Preferred Language” field:

  1. From the Manage Fields page in your account, click the pencil icon (Edit) for the “Preferred Language” field.
  2. Click the checkbox for “Automatically map values from an existing field.”
  3. Select the field you want to map to.
  4. Click the “Next” button.
  5. If prompted, map any new values. These dropdowns appear as red.
  6. Click “Review all mapped values” to view all field values being mapped.
  7. When finished, click the “Save” button.

Once mapped, the new Language field will stay linked to the original field, allowing it to be used without interruption.

If the contact does not have a preferred language set, they are sent the default version of the campaign.

Reporting

You can view reporting as a single campaign as well, including breakdowns of how each translated version performed.

Translate your standard campaign using AI

  1. Create a Standard campaign from the Campaigns page in your account.
  2. Supply all required information on the Campaign Summary page. This includes subject line, From name, From email, recipients, and more.
  3. Select Email Designer to create the campaign.
  4. Select a template, use a blank canvas, or use AI to create the email content, including images.
  5. Edit the email content and design as you see fit. When finished, click “Next.”
  6. Click the checkbox for “Translate to a contact’s language.” Note that this option will be greyed out. This is because it is not yet enabled.
  7. A modal window will appear. Click “Translate campaign.”

Our AI will immediately translate the email to all preferred languages. This should take a few moments, depending on the content being translated.

Review and edit translations before sending

Once the translations are finished, you can review each translation to make and save changes. To do so:

  1. Click the “Review” button located next to the “Translate to a contact’s language” checkbox on the Campaign Summary page.
  2. A list of translations will appear on the pane on the left. Click each translation to review the email’s content and design.
  3. If you need to change the content or images, click the item you want to update, make the necessary changes, and then click “Save edits” on the left pane.
  4. To exit, either click “Esc” or “Close.”
