With ActiveCampaign, you can connect your phone number to WhatsApp Messaging to help streamline conversations and manage customer relationships in one place.
This article shows you three ways to connect your number to WhatsApp Messaging with your ActiveCampaign account.
Connect a new phone number to WhatsApp
Follow these steps if the number you're configuring hasn't been used in WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, or WhatsApp Business API.
- From your ActiveCampaign account, click WhatsApp > Settings on the left menu.
- On the Account config page, click “WhatsApp accounts.”
- Click “Start now” for the "Connect a new WhatsApp number" option.
- Select the "Use a new number" option as the phone number origin.
-
Confirm that you own a Business Manager account and website.
To continue, confirm that you own a Business Manager account and a website. If you don’t have a Business Manager account, you can create one. Websites are needed so that Facebook can verify your business is real. If you don’t have one, your number might get blocked. - Click the "Login with Meta" button to begin the onboarding process. A modal window will appear. Authorize WhatsApp to interact with your business, then click “Get Started.”
- A modal window will appear; click the "Continue as..." button.
- On the next screen, choose your business portfolio, then click "Next."
-
Use the dropdown fields to select or create a WhatsApp Business account and WhatsApp Business profile. When finished, click "Next."
-
Update your display name to remove Meta product abbreviations, then select a category from the dropdown list. When finished, click "Next."
- On the next screen, click the "Add a new number" option. Then, click the phone number dropdown field to select your country code. Type the rest of the number into the field provided.
- Verify your phone number with Meta. To do so, select a verification method. Meta will send you a verification to the number you provided in the step above. Enter the verification code provided. When finished, click “Next.”
-
Review your request, then click the "Confirm" button.
- Wait a few moments while Meta connects your account.
- Once connected, a message will display indicating readiness to chat on WhatsApp. Click the “Finish” button.
The connection process is now complete, and your number is connected.

Migrate a phone number in use on the WhatsApp Business App
Note that this section does not apply to customers who are migrating from a business service provider (BSP).
If you use the WhatsApp Business app on your phone and want to connect the number to ActiveCampaign, you need to delete your WhatsApp account from the app first.
WhatsApp allows a number to use only one service at a time. It’s not possible to have the same number running on a WhatsApp Business app and WhatsApp API (ActiveCampaign) simultaneously.
The following items will not be migrated:
- Previous conversations
- Saved contacts
- Account information
- Message history
- Custom settings
All of this information will be permanently lost.
We recommend taking the following steps before deleting your WhatsApp Business account:
- Create a backup of all your information from WhatsApp Business
- Save important contacts elsewhere
- Export relevant conversations if necessary
Once you delete your WhatsApp Business account, you must wait 15-20 minutes before continuing with the connection to ActiveCampaign. This allows WhatsApp’s systems to process the deletion and release the number for use on the API.
The steps to migrate a phone number to ActiveCampaign are similar to connecting a new number.
- From your ActiveCampaign account, click WhatsApp > Settings on the left menu.
- Click “WhatsApp accounts” On the Account config page.
- Click “Start now” to connect a new WhatsApp number.
- Click the "Migrate a number in use on the WhatsApp Business App” option.
-
Check the required box confirming that you deactivated two-factor authentication and wish to continue with this number.
-
Click the required checkboxes to confirm that you have an active website or Facebook fan page and admin access to your business’s Meta Business Manager account.
- Click the “Login with Meta” button.
- A modal window will appear. Click to continue with your account.
- In the next modal window, click “Get started” to confirm that you want to connect to ActiveCampaign.
- Next, use the dropdown fields to:
- Select a business portfolio
- Select "Create a WhatsApp Business Account"
-
Select "Create WhatsApp Business Profile"
- Click the "Instruct Meta to automatically identify order and lead events" checkbox field
-
Click the "Next" button
-
Update your display name to remove Meta product abbreviations and select a category from the dropdown list. When finished, click "Next."
- On the next screen, click the "Add a new number" option. Then click the phone number dropdown field to select your country code. Enter the remaining numbers into the provided field.
- Verify your phone number with Meta. To do so, select a verification method. Meta will send you a verification to the number you provided in the step above. Enter the verification code provided. When finished, click “Next.”
-
Review your request, then click the “Confirm” button.
- Wait a few moments while Meta connects your account.
- Once connected, a message will display indicating readiness to chat on WhatsApp. Click the “Finish” button.
The connection process is now complete, and your number is connected.

Migrate a phone number already connected to the WhatsApp API to another provider
This option lets you migrate your number’s configuration and features. It does not migrate the historical content of conversations or contacts.
For WhatsApp to allow the migration of a number between business portfolios, you must meet the following requirements:
Both portfolios must be verified:
- Current business portfolio (where the number currently is)
- Destination business portfolio (where the number will be after migration)
Click to verify the verification status
The number must NOT have two-factor authentication enabled.
If you do not have access to your WhatsApp account because another provider manages it, you will need to contact the provider to disable 2FA and unlink the WhatsApp account.
To disable 2FA for your number:
- Log in to your WhatsApp Business Manager account.
- Find the WhatsApp account that contains the number you want to connect to ActiveCampaign WhatsApp Messaging. Make sure to access this link from the corresponding business portfolio.
- Once you've located the account, click on the "WhatsApp Manager" tile.
- Locate the number you're going to migrate to ActiveCampaign WhatsApp Messaging. Click on it to display the available options.
-
Select "Authentication Steps" and choose the option to disable two-factor authentication (2FA).
- Enter your profile password to confirm the deactivation. Once entered, 2FA will be disabled, and you'll receive the confirmation by email.
- Go to your email inbox and open the confirmation email. The subject line will read “WhatsApp Two-Step Verification Reset” or a similar message. Click the link in the email.
- The link will direct you to WhatsApp. Click the “Turn off Two-Step Verification” button.
- A modal window will appear letting you know that 2FA is turned off.
If you do not meet these requirements, you cannot migrate your number.
Information that is migrated to ActiveCampaign using this method includes:
- Message templates: All approved templates are migrated automatically
- Message quality: The number's quality rating is maintained
- Verification (blue check): If the number has verification, it is preserved
- Daily message limit: The allowed conversation limit is maintained
We will not migrate the following data:
- Contacts
- Previous conversations
- Message history from another BSP (Business Solution Provider) is not migrated
This data is not migrated because WhatsApp does not allow transferring conversations between BSPs.
To connect the WhatsApp API to ActiveCampaign:
- From your ActiveCampaign account, click WhatsApp > Settings on the left menu.

- Check the required boxes confirming that you deactivated two-factor authentication and wish to continue with this number. See "Requirement 2: Two-factor authentication (2FA) disabled" above for instructions.
- Click the required checkboxes to confirm that you have an active website or Facebook fan page and admin access to your business’s Meta Business Manager account.
- Click the “Login with Meta” button.
- A modal window will appear. Click to continue with your account.
- In the next modal window, click “Get started” to confirm that you want to connect to ActiveCampaign.
- Next, use the dropdown fields to:
- Select a business portfolio
- Select “Create a WhatsApp Business Account”
- Select “Create WhatsApp Business Profile”

- Click the “Next” button.
- On the next screen, click the “Add a new number” option. Then, click the phone number dropdown field to select your country code, and type the rest of the number into the field provided.
- Verify your phone number with Meta. To do so, select a verification method. Meta will send you a verification to the number you provided in the step above. Enter the verification code provided. When finished, click “Next.”
- Review your request, then click the “Confirm” button.
- Wait a few moments while Meta connects your account.
- Once connected, a message will display indicating readiness to chat on WhatsApp. Click the “Finish” button.
