You can archive WhatsApp conversations you no longer need, regardless of status. Once a conversation is archived, you can use the Inbox filters to view messages that are or are not archived. Note that archiving a message does not remove it from your default Inbox view.

Listed below are a few ways to archive a message.

Archive a WhatsApp Conversation using the top menu

From your WhatsApp Inbox:

  1. Locate and click the conversation you want to archive.
  2. Click the vertical ellipsis on the top menu.

Archive WhatsApp conversations when marked as “Closed”

This option automatically archives messages when they are given a “Closed” status.

Conversations can be closed manually or automatically after a period of inactivity that you define. Inactivity starts from the last message sent or received in the conversation. Once the set time is met without activity, the conversation closes automatically and is archived.

  1. Click WhatsApp > Settings on the left menu.
  2. Under “Inbox config,” click “Inbox Settings.”
  3. Click the toggle for the “Archive conversations when closing them?” option.
  4. Click the “Save changes” button
