If you use WhatsApp Business API to message customers, there are limits on how many conversations you can start each day.
What Are Messaging Limits?
These limits determine the number of new conversations your business can initiate within 24 hours. A new conversation begins when you send your first template message to a customer.
Basic Limits
- Business Portfolio not verified by Meta and approved display name: 250 conversations per day
-
Business Portfolio Verified by Meta and approved display name can start conversations with:
- 1,000 customers per day (starting level)
- 10,000 customers per day
- 100,000 customers per day
- Unlimited customers per day (highest level)
You start at 1,000 and can move up based on your phone number status, phone number quality rating, and the frequency of your messages to new customers.
To check your limits:
- Click WhatsApp > Settings on the left menu.
- Under “Account config,” click “WhatsApp accounts.”
- Click the channel you want to view.
Your limits will appear in the “Messaging tier” box on the left side of your screen.
How to Increase Your Limit
WhatsApp checks if you can move to the next level every time you message a new customer.
To move up, you need:
- Your business portfolio that the number is connected to must be verified. Learn how to check if your Business Portfolio is verified
- Your phone number quality rating must be "Medium" or "High"
- In the past 7 days, you started conversations with at least half of your current limit (example: if your limit is 1,000, you need 500 new conversations)
If you meet all these requirements, WhatsApp will increase your limit within 24 hours.
How Your Limit Can Go Down
If your phone number quality rating stays "Low" for 7 days, WhatsApp will immediately lower your limit by one level.
To avoid this, keep your phone number quality high and stay active with new customers to increase your messaging limits. Poor quality will cause your limits to drop.
