With ActiveCampaign, you can start new conversations and send messages to contacts from your WhatsApp Messaging inbox.

Take note

When starting a conversation, you must use a template as your first message. You can create templates in the WhatsApp > Templates section of your ActiveCampaign account. Note that templates must be approved by Meta before using them. Learn more about WhatsApp templates.

Start a conversation from your WhatsApp inbox

  1. From your ActiveCampaign account, click WhatsApp > Inbox on the left menu. 
  2. Click the “+” button at the top of your inbox. 
  3. A sidebar will open to the right of your screen: 
    • Click the dropdown and select the channel you want the conversation to originate from
    • Enter the phone number or contact’s name into the field provided. As you type, we’ll display matches that you can click
    • Click the “Start a conversation” button
    • A confirmation box will appear, letting you know that the conversation is now assigned to you
  4. Select the template you want to use to open a conversation.
    • If the template contains variables, fill in the value for each variable
  5. Once the template is sent, wait for the contact's reply. Upon receiving their response, you have a 24-hour window to send your next message. Learn more about the 24-hour conversation window

Test your WhatsApp connection

If you wish to test your connection right away, send a message to the number you just connected to WhatsApp through your personal WhatsApp number. If everything is set up correctly, you should receive a message from your number in your WhatsApp inbox provided by ActiveCampaign. See if you can find it and reply.
