Use the ActiveCampaign WordPress Plugin

Once you have installed and configured the ActiveCampaign WordPress plugin, you can use it to publish forms and install site tracking code.

Publish ActiveCampaign forms to your WordPress site

You can publish ActiveCampaign forms using the Classic Editor or the Gutenberg Block Editor. Instructions for both editors are below.

Publishing your ActiveCampaign form on WordPress will help you grow your email marketing lists, leverage site tracking (when enabled), and collect additional pieces of information from your contacts.

The types of forms you can publish on WordPress include:

  • Inline forms (all plan levels)
A form that is embedded into the content of the webpage.
  • Floating box forms (Plus, Professional, and Enterprise plans)
A small box that slides up from the bottom of the page.
  • Modal pop up forms (Plus, Professional, and Enterprise plans)
A box that appears on top of the webpage content and dims the background.
  • Floating bar forms (Plus, Professional, and Enterprise plans)
A strip that appears at the top or bottom of the page.

How to publish forms using the Classic Editor

If you're using the Classic Editor in WordPress, you'll first need to select each form you wish to publish. This will cache the form(s) locally in WordPress. Once that's complete, you can then use the plugin to insert your cached form(s) into any page or post.

Step 1: Select your forms

1. In WordPress, navigate to Settings > ActiveCampaign. Then locate the "Subscription Forms" section.

2. Click the checkbox for each form you wish to be able to use on your WordPress site.  You can choose one, some, or all forms.

The "Use ActiveCampaign's form CSS" option will be selected by default. If left checked, the form will use CSS styling provided by ActiveCampaign. If you don't wish to use this option, uncheck this box.

3. When finished, click the "Update Settings" button.

Step 2: Insert your forms into pages or posts

1. Locate the WordPress page or post that you would like to publish an ActiveCampaign form to.

2. When the page opens, you'll see the ActiveCampaign button in the toolbar:

3. Place your cursor where you want the form to appear and click the ActiveCampaign logo.

4. A modal window will appear and list the forms you've created. Click the name of the form you'd like to insert. A shortcode will appear.

When the post is previewed or published, the shortcode will be replaced with your ActiveCampaign form.

Embed your form(s) with a shortcode

As an alternative to the ActiveCampaign button in the toolbar, you can embed forms into your pages and posts using a shortcode. Each form listed on the ActiveCampaign WordPress plugin settings page has its own shortcode. Just copy this code and paste the form's shortcode link into your WordPress page.

Editing your form

If you need to make edits to your form:

1. Log back into your ActiveCampaign account and navigate to the Forms section of your account. To get there, click "Website" then "Forms."

2. Click the form you wish to make edits to.

3. Make the desired edits to your form then click the "Integrate" button.

4. Click the "Save & Close" button.

5. Go back to WordPress and navigate to "Settings" > "ActiveCampaign."

6. Click the "Update Settings" button.

How to publish forms using the Gutenberg Block Editor

With the Gutenberg Block editor, any form you create in ActiveCampaign is automatically available for you to publish on your WordPress site.

This means that you do not need to cache your forms locally on WordPress to publish them.

To publish a form to your WordPress site:

1. Log into your WordPress account and navigate to the post or page where you want to publish an ActiveCampaign form.

2. Click the name of the post or page to open the editor.

3. Click the "Add Block" button.

Install ActiveCampaign Site Tracking code

Once you install ActiveCampaign Site Tracking code into WordPress, you can use it to:

  • Track visits made to your WordPress site by contacts
When enabled, this plugin will insert site tracking code into every page of your WordPress site. This allows you to track page visits of identified contacts. You can use this information to trigger automated workflows, send targeted emails based on which page a contact visits, and more. Note that you still need to turn on the Site Tracking feature in your ActiveCampaign account and whitelist your domain. Learn more about Site Tracking.

How to install ActiveCampaign Site Tracking code

1. Log into your WordPress account.

2. Click "Settings" then click "ActiveCampaign."

3. Click the "Install ActiveCampaign code" toggle to set it to the "On" position. When on, the toggle will appear blue:

In_WordPress_under_Settings_then_ActiveCampaign_Click_the_Install_ActiveCampaign_code_toggle_to_on_Once_on_it_will_appear_blue.png

4. Two site tracking options will expand. Click the option that works best for you. You can choose from:

  • Track by default
This setting is selected by default. It will track page visits and IP addresses for all known contacts without their explicit consent. Page visits and IP addresses are considered personal data.
  • Don't track by default
This option will not track known contacts by default. Your contacts will only be tracked after they confirm tracking consent. You will need to create a tracking consent notice and connect it to this plugin.

5. Click the "Update Settings" button.

If you'd like to disable site tracking, click the "Enable site tracking" toggle to set it to its "Off" position.
