Active Intelligence user memory learns your preferences as you chat, so you do not have to repeat yourself across sessions.
When you tell Active Intelligence something like "Always show me how you calculated a metric" or "Never include emojis in subject lines," it remembers. That preference is stored and applied to every future conversation automatically.
User memory works alongside custom instructions and your Brand Kit. Custom instructions are account-wide settings that an admin configures for all users. User memory is personal to you and builds over time based on what you say in your conversations.
Benefits of this feature include:
-
No repeat explanations
Tell Active Intelligence your preferences once in a conversation, and they carry over to every future session. -
Personalized to you
Each user builds their own memory, so Active Intelligence adapts to how you work individually, not just how your account is set up. -
Stay in control
View, manage, and delete stored memories at any time from the Memory panel. Changes take effect immediately.
Take note
- User memory is stored at the user level. Each person on your account has their own set of memories.
- Custom instructions set by an admin still apply to all users. If a memory conflicts with a custom instruction, your memory takes priority for your sessions.
- User memory is available to all Active Intelligence users. You do not need admin access.
- You can view and delete your memories at any time from the Customize settings.
How user memory works
You do not need to go to a settings page to create a memory. Instead, you state your preference directly in a conversation with Active Intelligence.
Active Intelligence recognizes natural language commands such as:
- "Always do this..."
- "Never do that..."
- "From now on..."
- "Remember that..."
When Active Intelligence detects a preference, it saves it as a memory. That memory is automatically applied to every future session.
Examples of preferences you can set
| What you say | What Active Intelligence remembers |
| "Always show me how you calculated a metric." | Include the source and calculation for every metric. |
| "Never include emojis in subject lines." | Exclude emojis from all subject line suggestions. |
| "From now on, give me three options for subject lines." | Provide three subject line options in every draft. |
| "Remember that our fiscal year starts in July." | Use July as the fiscal year start in reporting and analysis. |

How user memory, custom instructions, and Brand Kit work together
Active Intelligence uses three layers of personalization. Each one serves a different purpose:
| Layer | Set by | Scope | Purpose |
| Brand Kit | Admin | Account-wide | Defines your company name, logo, colors, and brand voice. |
| Custom instructions | Admin | Account-wide | Guides how Active Intelligence interacts with your team and creates content for your business. |
| User memory | Any user | Per user | Stores individual preferences stated during conversations. |
All three layers work together. Brand Kit and custom instructions provide the foundation. User memory adds personal preferences on top.
If your memory conflicts with a custom instruction, your memory takes priority in your sessions.
