Reference assets in Active Intelligence

When you chat with Active Intelligence, you can reference assets (campaign or automation) by name in the prompt. This tells Active Intelligence exactly which asset you are referring to, so it returns accurate results every time.

Without referencing an asset in the prompt, Active Intelligence tries to match asset names on a best-effort basis. If you have campaigns or automations with similar names, this can lead to incorrect results. Referencing the asset removes that guesswork by passing the asset's unique ID to the system. It also gives you a quick way to find and use assets when you don't know the exact name.

This article walks you through how to reference assets in Active Intelligence.

Take note

  • You can reference Campaigns and Automations as assets. Additional asset types will be added in future updates
  • You can reference assets from both the Active Intelligence homepage and the sidebar
  • Not available for Reseller accounts

How to reference an asset in Active Intelligence

There are two ways to reference an asset in Active Intelligence:

You can add more than one asset to a single prompt.

Option 1: Type @ in the chat input

  1. Access the Active Intelligence homepage by logging in (it will be the first page) or by clicking the ActiveCampaign logo in the top menu if already logged in. To open the Active Intelligence sidebar, click the Active Intelligence icon from any page except the homepage.
  2. Click into the Active Intelligence prompt field.
  3. Type the @ symbol. A dropdown will appear with asset categories (Campaigns and Automations).
  4. Click a category to browse your assets, or continue typing to narrow the results.
  5. Click the asset you want to reference. It will appear as a visual tag in the prompt field.

Option 2: Click the “@ Add content” button

  1. Access the Active Intelligence homepage by logging in (it will be the first page) or by clicking the ActiveCampaign logo in the top menu if already logged in. To open the Active Intelligence sidebar, click the Active Intelligence icon from any page except the homepage.
  2. Click the “@ Add content” button located in the Active Intelligence prompt field.
  3. Select an asset category (Campaigns or Automations).
  4. Browse the list or type to search for the asset you need.
  5. Click the asset to select it. It will appear as a visual tag in the chat input.

Remove a selected asset

You can remove an asset from your message at any time before you submit it.

To remove an asset, press the Backspace key on your keyboard in the prompt field.

Once you submit your message, the asset tag will appear as part of your normal chat history.

What happens when you submit the prompt

When you send a prompt that includes a referenced asset, Active Intelligence receives the asset's exact ID. This ensures Active Intelligence pulls data, generates content, or takes action on the correct campaign or automation, even if you have multiple assets with similar names.

You can still type a campaign or automation name without referencing an asset, but Active Intelligence will use best-effort matching. For the most accurate results, we recommend referencing assets. It also gives you a quick way to find and reference assets when you don't know the exact name.

Example prompts that reference an asset

Here are a few examples of how you can reference assets in your prompts:

What you want to do Example prompt
Check campaign performance "How did @[Spring Sale 2026] perform last month?"
Compare automations "Compare the open rates of @[Welcome Series] and @[Re-engagement Flow]"
Reference a campaign in an automation "Create an automation that sends @[April Newsletter] when a contact joins my VIP list"
Get optimization tips "What can I improve about @[Product Launch Email]?"
Troubleshoot a campaign "Why did @[Flash Sale Reminder] have a low click rate?"
Edit an existing automation "Add a wait step before the second email in @[Onboarding Drip]"

Tips for best results

  • Reference assets whenever you need to point to a specific campaign or automation
This is especially helpful when you have campaigns or automations with similar names (e.g., "Spring Sale 2025" and "Spring Sale 2026").
  • Combine referencing assets with follow-up prompts
Active Intelligence remembers context within each chat tab. You can reference an asset in your first message and continue the conversation without selecting it again.
  • Reference assets across all Active Intelligence surfaces
Whether you are on the Active Intelligence homepage or using the context-aware sidebar, referencing assets works the same way.
