Audience: ActiveCampaign Partners (resellers) who use the Partner Portal.

The Upgrade URL setting lets you choose where your clients go when they select an upgrade option inside the ActiveCampaign account you resold to them. Instead of ActiveCampaign billing, clients land on a page on your own website, for example your pricing page or your own purchase funnel.

Take Note

  • The Upgrade URL setting applies to resold accounts that belong to your Partner Portal.

  • It is a partner-level setting. You set one URL, and it is used for all of your clients' accounts. It is not available per single client account.

  • The URL must start with https://. Other addresses (for example http:// or addresses that contain a username or password) are rejected.

  • This setting only sends clients to your page. Your site is responsible for what happens next, such as showing plans, taking payment or contacting the client.

  • When the setting is off, nothing changes. Clients see the same account as before, and the upgrade options that ActiveCampaign hides on resold accounts stay hidden.

Before you start

  • You need access to the Partner Portal as a Partner user who can edit branding.

  • Prepare the full https:// address of the page on your site where clients should land.

  • Make sure that page works for people who are not signed in to your site, or that it asks them to sign in.

Set up your Upgrade URL

  1. In the Partner Portal, go to Accounts, then select Branding.

  2. Open the Upgrade URL tab.

  3. Turn on Use a custom upgrade URL.

  4. In the Target URL field, enter the page on your site where clients land when they choose to upgrade. The https:// prefix is already filled in.

  5. Select Update.

  6. In the confirmation window, choose whether the changes apply to accounts created in the future only, or to both future and existing accounts, and confirm.

  7. Refresh the page and check that the switch is on and your URL is saved.

If the address is not valid, an error appears under the field, and a message appears when you try to save. Fix the address and select Update again.

Changes can take up to 5 minutes to reach your clients' accounts.

Where your clients see the upgrade options

When the setting is on, upgrade options that were hidden on resold accounts appear again for the client's main administrator. Selecting them takes the client to your Upgrade URL.

  • The account menu: Billing (Manage subscription) and Unlock features

  • The trial banner on trial accounts

  • Contact limit messages: contact limit modals and banners, import messages, and the "past limit" banner in campaigns

Upgrade options in the account menu, the trial banner and the header open your page in a new browser tab, so your client keeps their ActiveCampaign page open.

Only the main administrator of the client account sees these options. Users who only have the billing role on a resold account do not see them.

Some other upgrade prompts, such as prompts on locked features and emails that mention upgrading, are not yet connected to the Upgrade URL. They keep their current behavior until they are updated.

Turn off or change the Upgrade URL

  1. Go to Accounts, then Branding, then Upgrade URL.

  2. To stop sending clients to your page, turn off Use a custom upgrade URL. To change the page, edit the Target URL.

  3. Select Update and confirm.

When you turn the setting off, or when the saved URL is missing or no longer valid, clients get the standard behavior for resold accounts. They are not sent to a broken page.

Manage the Upgrade URL with the API

You can read and change the Upgrade URL on its own, without touching the rest of your branding.

  • GET /api/branding/v1/upgrade-url returns whether the setting is on and the saved URL.

  • PUT /api/branding/v1/upgrade-url updates only the Upgrade URL. Send enabled (true or false) and, optionally, url. If you leave out url, the saved URL stays. Send an empty string to clear it.

  • The same rules apply as in the Partner Portal: https only, a valid host, no credentials, and at most 2048 characters. A URL is required when enabled is true. Errors return 422 with validation_failed.

  • Authenticate the same way as the branding API, with an api-key header or a Bearer token.

The branding endpoint PUT /api/branding/v1/ also accepts upgrade_url_enabled and upgrade_url. That call replaces the whole branding, so use the dedicated upgrade-url endpoint if you only want to change the Upgrade URL.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I see the Upgrade URL tab? Open Branding from Accounts. The tab is not shown when you open Branding for a single client account from the Login menu in the Overview table, because the setting is for all of your clients.

Why does the page open in a new tab? So your client does not lose the page they were working on in ActiveCampaign.

Can I add tracking parameters or send the client's details to my page? Not yet. The page opens at the exact URL you save. You can include a fixed query string in the URL yourself, for example a campaign tag, if your page needs one.

Can I use a different URL for each client account? Not at the moment. One URL is used for all of your clients.

Do my clients' emails use the Upgrade URL? Not yet. Some emails, such as low SMS credit emails, still link to ActiveCampaign pages.
