How to create, update, and delete custom object records

Available on the Enterprise plan. 

With ActiveCampaign, you can create, update, and delete contact custom object records from your account. Doing so makes it easy for you to adjust custom object information as needed without using the API.

Take note

  • You must create a Contact Custom Object template using either the “Manage Data” page in your account or the API in order to use this feature

  • You can only create, update, and delete custom object records from a contact profile record

  • All users on an Enterprise account can create and edit custom object records

  • Only users in the Admin group can delete custom object records

  • Create, edit, and delete functions are not available for custom objects synced from supported third-party applications and integrations
  • You can trigger a webhook to run when you create, update, or delete a custom object. To learn more, visit the Use ActiveCampaign webhooks page

Create a custom object record

You can create a custom object record for any contact right from their profile page. Once created, this object will appear on that contact’s record only.

  1. Click “Contacts” to navigate to the Contacts Overview page.
  2. Locate the contact you wish to update with a new custom object record.
  3. Click the contact’s name to open their profile page.
  4. If you have multiple custom objects, use the tabs on the custom object box to locate the correct template.
  5. Click the “Add a record” option located on the custom object box:

  6. A modal window will appear. Complete the fields provided, then click the “Add” button.

The new object record will appear at the top of the object template for your contact.

Update a custom object record

You can update a custom object record for any contact right from their profile page.

  1. Click “Contacts” to navigate to the Contacts Overview page.
  2. Locate the contact with the custom object record you wish to update.
  3. Click the contact’s name to open their profile page.
  4. If you have multiple custom objects, use the tabs on the custom object box to locate the correct template.
  5. Locate the custom object record you wish to update.
  6. Click the “Details” button.
  7. Details for the custom object record will appear on a right-side pane.
  8. Hover your mouse over the field you wish to edit, then click the pencil icon.
  9. Edit the field, then click the “Save” button.

Delete a custom object record

Limited to Account Admins.

You can delete a custom object record for any contact right from their profile page. Note that this action is permanent. Once deleted, you cannot restore the record.

  1. Click “Contacts” to navigate to the Contacts Overview page.
  2. Locate the contact with the custom field record you wish to delete.
  3. Click the contact’s name to open their profile page.
  4. If you have multiple custom objects, use the tabs on the custom object box to locate the correct template.
  5. Locate the custom object record you wish to delete.
  6. Click the down caret next to the “Details” button.
  7. Click “Delete.”
  8. A modal window will appear. Click the “Delete” button.

You can also delete a custom object record from the custom object detail pane. To do so:

  1. Click “Contacts” to navigate to the Contacts Overview page.
  2. Locate the contact with the custom field record you wish to delete.
  3. Click the contact’s name to open their profile page.
  4. If you have multiple custom objects, use the tabs on the custom object box to locate the correct template.
  5. Locate the custom object record you wish to delete.
  6. Click the “Details” button.
  7. Click the ellipsis next to the “X.”
  8. Click the “Delete” option.
  9. A modal window will appear. Click the “Delete” button.
