With ActiveCampaign, you can use link actions with the Email Designer (launched in 2022). A link action is an automated action triggered when a contact clicks a link in a direct or automated campaign. The types of link actions available are:

  • Add tags
  • Remove tags
  • Subscribe to list
  • Unsubscribe from list
  • Add to automation
  • End automation

Take Note

  • Link actions cannot be used with 1:1 emails.
  • If you use the same URL more than once in your communication, the link actions will be the same for each instance of that same URL. It is not possible to create different link actions for a URL that is used more than once in your email
  • Link actions cannot be used in templates. All link actions must be created in the campaign design page
  • You must have Link Tracking turned on to use Link Actions

To create a link action:

  1. Open your campaign or automation email.
  2. To create a link with text, highlight the text with your cursor, then click the link icon in the navigation bar. The "Add a Link" modal will appear.

To reopen the "Add a Link" modal, in the right panel, click the two blue arrows in the "Link" section field.
    • On the right panel
In the "Link" section, type in the URL you would like the link to redirect to.
  4. Next, click “Add Link Action” underneath the URL.
  5. The "Add a Link" modal will pop up. Select your preferred action from the action dropdown list by clicking it.

  6. Define a value for that action in the right field. For example, if you choose to tag contacts when they click your link, you will need to either A. search, B. choose, or C. create the tag in the link action.

  7. When finished, click "Save."

Add more than one action to a single link

For example, you can add multiple tags and add a contact to an automation.

To add additional values to an action, search, choose, or create the value to add more. In the example below, we added an additional tag.

To add additional actions to the link, click the “Add an action” option and set up the new action with the steps above.
