The Subscribe by SMS Keyword feature lets individuals subscribe to your SMS marketing list by texting a keyword to a phone number associated with your ActiveCampaign account. You can select a phone number to use when the feature is activated. This opt-in method does not use any SMS credits.

Contacts must supply a phone number or email address to subscribe to your list.
Set up Subscribe by SMS for a list
- Click SMS on the left menu, then click “Keywords.”
- Click the “Create a keyword” button.
- In the “Create a keyword” modal, provide the following information:
- Type the keyword you want your contacts to use to subscribe to your list
- Select a phone number you want to use
- Select a list that you want contacts to subscribe to
- Add a subscription confirmation message. It can say something like “Thank you for joining our SMS list. Msg & data rates may apply. Expect updates, offers, & more. Reply STOP to opt out
- Optional: Click the toggle button to collect only the phone number from contacts. This means that contacts do not need to submit their email address to you to subscribe
- Click the “Save” button
Once you save the Subscribe by SMS configuration, a QR code will appear. You can download the QR code and add it to your landing pages, website, fliers and more. When a contact scans the QR code, their phone's text message app opens and adds the keyword to a new message, along with their phone number for subscription.
