Why does the font in my email look small on mobile?

Our drag-and-drop email designer automatically optimizes emails for mobile responsiveness. This means that if you’re using a 14px font in the designer, the font size in mobile should also render as 14px. However, there may be times when the font size on mobile appears smaller or “zoomed out.” If you’re experiencing this issue, here are some things to check:

Is “Enable mobile responsiveness” on?
This setting is automatically enabled for every campaign and automation email you create, and it can be manually turned off. To ensure this setting is on, go to the design step of your campaign and click the cog on the top left:

The campaign settings modal will open. If “Enable mobile responsiveness” is off, click the toggle to turn it on:

Was text copied from an external source and then pasted it into the campaign?
When text is copied from an external source and pasted into a campaign, we’ll pick up all styling from that source in addition to the actual text. This includes anything copied from a word processing program. While we do our best to strip out anything that may make your email not render correctly, not everything is caught. This means that there could be extra padding in your design that is forcing the text in your email to appear smaller when viewed on mobile. To correct this, we recommend adding a new text content block to your email and typing the text directly into the designer instead of pasting it from an outside source.

Did you use custom code to create your email?
If the font size for a campaign appears small when viewed on mobile, it may have something to do with the custom code used. We recommend reviewing the code used to see if there is any extra padding—too much padding can make the font appear smaller on a mobile device. In addition, we recommend using pixel for your font instead of points or percents and using a media query to help your design adapt to different screen resolutions.

Before sending your campaign to your contacts, we recommend testing your campaign as much as possible. To learn more about the different ways to test your email, click here.
