Restore archived contacts

Any account admin can restore archived contacts after they’ve been archived for at least 30 days. Contacts can be restored for up to 1 year after archiving. They can also see when contacts were archived.

Take note

  • Only Admin users can restore archived contacts

  • Restoring contacts will not trigger any automations to run or campaigns to send

  • You can perform one restore job at a time

  • You cannot restore a contact that has been merged. Once merged, there is no way to restore previous data

How to restore archived contacts

Restoring a contact adds them back to your active contact limit and counts them against your active billing limit immediately.

  You can only restore contacts that have been archived for over 30 days.

Restoration can happen in two ways:

  1. Automatic Restore: If an archived contact submits any active form tied to your account, their status automatically changes back to "Active.”
  2. Manual Restore: You can manually restore contacts from the dedicated Archived Contacts list, as long as the 30-day freeze period has passed.

Manually restore contacts:

  1. Click Contacts on the left menu.
  2. From the Contacts Overview, click the three dots button in the top right corner.
  3. Click “View archived contacts.
  4. From the archived contacts list, filter and select the contact(s) you’d like to restore. 
  5. Click the “Restore” button at the top for bulk restore or click the “Restore” button to the right of an individual contact.

    (red callout) If you are close to or over your contact limit, a confirmation modal may appear, warning you of the potential for an overage charge upon restore.
  6. Click “Confirm Restore” to move the contact(s) back to the main contact list.

The restore process can take up to 15 minutes. You can leave the page while the restore action processes in the background.

You can only perform one restore job at a time.

Locate restored contacts

After you restore an archived contact, search for the contact to confirm it was restored to your account.

Restored data

ListsList association status (Subscribed, Bounced, Unsubscribed, Unconfirmed) is restored, unless the list is deleted.
AccountsAccount association is restored, unless the account is deleted
DealsIf the restored contact is the only contact - the deal is deleted and will not be restored.
If restored contact is one of multiple contacts on a deal, the deal is not deleted and the contact is added back to the deal. They will not be restored as the Primary Contact.
TagsAll tags are restored unless deleted.
Created DateContact’s original Create Date is restored.
