The ActiveCampaign MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server enables a connection between ActiveCampaign data and AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude. This server facilitates secure, conversational control over campaigns, contacts, and automations.

  • This article explains how to connect ChatGPT and Claude to the ActiveCampaign MCP Server. What is ActiveCampaign’s MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server?

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open-source standard designed to link AI applications with external systems. ActiveCampaign’s MCP Server allows AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT to securely access and manage ActiveCampaign data through natural language commands.

What can I do with the ActiveCampaign MCP Server?

The MCP Server connection enables the management of contacts and automations, as well as the retrieval of campaign details. The functionality includes the ability to:

  • Perform marketing tasks, such as creating, updating, or adding contacts, lists, tags, or custom fields. 
    • For example: 
      • To create a new tag, you can prompt: "Create a new tag called 'Webinar Attendee' in ActiveCampaign." 
      • To manage custom fields, you can prompt: "Set the ActiveCampaign custom field 'Company Size' to 'Enterprise' for John Smith."
  • Analyze email activities and campaigns by retrieving campaign performance data and insights. 
    • For example, you can prompt: "List all my ActiveCampaign campaigns and their performance metrics from this month."
  • Add or remove contacts from automations to manage customer journeys. 
    • For example, you can prompt: "Add Sarah Smith to the 'Welcome Series' automation in ActiveCampaign."
  • Retrieve marketing engagement data, including campaign links, performance metrics, and the ability to create and send new campaigns. 
    • For example, you can prompt: "Retrieve insights" to access detailed engagement analytics.

How to get your Remote MCP URL

To establish a connection with an MCP-compatible AI tool, you must obtain your unique Remote MCP URL from your ActiveCampaign account.

  1. From your ActiveCampaign account, click "Settings" (gear icon).
  2. Click the "Developer" option.
  3. Copy your Remote MCP URL. This URL is unique to your account.

Connect the MCP Server to ChatGPT

  A paid ChatGPT plan is required to connect.

  1. From your ChatGPT account, click your profile > Settings.
  2. In the settings modal, click "Connectors" > "Advanced settings" then toggle on "Developer mode."
  3. Click back to return to the Connectors view then click the "Create" button.
  4. In the “New Connector” modal:
    1. Name the new connector
    2. (Optional) Type in a description
    3. Paste the Remote MCP URL into the “MCP Server URL” field.
    4. Select “OAuth” in the “Authentication” dropdown
    5. Click the checkbox next to “I trust this application”
    6. Click “Create”
  5. The “Connectors” modal will reload. Click the new ActiveCampaign option
  6. The system will guide you through providing your ActiveCampaign login credentials. Click “Allow” to approve the connection.
  7. Anytime you want to use the ActiveCampaign MCP Server in ChatGPT you must do the following:
    1. Open a new ChatGPT chat
    2. Click the plus sign in the prompt field
    3. Select "developer mode" 
    4. Click the "add sources" dropdown 
    5. Select ActiveCampaign MCP server as your source
    6. Type and send your prompt

Connect the MCP Server to Claude

  A Claude Pro or Max account is required to connect.

  1. In your ActiveCampaign account, click ​“Settings” (gear icon) in the upper right corner.
  2. Select ​“Developer” from the Settings menu.
  3. Copy your Remote MCP URL. This URL is unique to your account.
  4. Open your Claude account and click on ​“Settings” in the menu to the left.
  5. Select ​“Connectors.”
  6. Click on ​“Browse Connectors.”
  7. Select ActiveCampaign from the list of Connectors and click “Connect”.
  8. The Install ActiveCampaign modal will appear. Paste your Remote MCP URL into the designated field and click the “Continue” button.

The system will guide you through the rest of the connection process. This includes providing your ActiveCampaign login credentials and approving the connection. Once connected, you can open a new Claude chat and start prompting. Learn more about how to connect Claude to ActiveCampaign.
