The Automations Map gives you a live, visual overview of every automation in your account — how they're grouped, how contacts flow between them, and how each one is performing — on a single zoomable canvas.
To open it, click "Automations" on the left menu, then click "Automations Map."
How to read the map
- Circles are automations. The busier an automation is, the larger its circle. Automations with no recent activity are marked "dormant."
- Tinted areas group automations by label. Each label you've applied to your automations forms its own named group; automations without a label appear in a group called "No label."
- Diamonds are starting points. They show where contacts enter your automations from — a form, a tag, a date, a deal, a list, a site or event action, a field change, or manually/by API.
- Squares are webhooks that your automations send data to.
- Curved lines show flow. A line between two shapes means contacts or data move between them — for example, one automation starting another, or a form feeding an automation. Heavier lines carry more volume.
Moving around
- Zoom with your mouse wheel or trackpad, or use the "+" and "−" buttons in the lower-left corner. The percentage readout shows your current zoom, and the "Fit map to screen" button returns to the full view.
- Zoomed out, groups collapse into bubbles with a count of the automations inside. Click a bubble to zoom into that group. If a group contains a single automation, clicking it opens that automation directly.
- Zoomed in, click any group's tinted area to zoom to it, or hover it for a quick summary (automations and recent contacts in the group).
- Click any empty area to zoom back out to the full map. You can also press Escape, or use the arrow keys to step between groups and automations.
Search and filters
The header has a search box and three filters. Use them together to focus the map on exactly the automations you care about — everything else is hidden from the canvas as you change them.
- Search — type to find any automation by name and jump straight to it.
- Status — the map shows Active automations by default. Switch to "Inactive" or "Any status" to bring paused automations into view.
- Starts from — filter by how automations begin: Tag Trigger, Form Trigger, Date Trigger, Deal Trigger, Event Trigger, Field Trigger, List Trigger, Behavior Trigger, or Manual/API. The "Another automation" option controls automations that are started by other automations. Each row shows how many automations start that way, and "Select all" / "Clear all" set every row at once.
- Labels — check or uncheck label groups. Accounts with many labels start with the 12 busiest shown; click "Show all" to list the rest, use the search box to find one by name, or "Select all" / "Clear all" to set everything at once. Each row shows the label's 30-day contact volume. "No label" controls unlabeled automations, and "Show hidden" reveals automations you've hidden from the map.
Automation details
Click an automation's circle to open its details panel:
- Name, label, status, and message count
- Total contacts and current contacts
- Previews of the messages it sends
- Upstream sources — everything that puts contacts into this automation — and downstream destinations — everywhere contacts and data go next. Click any entry to follow the chain to that automation.
- The pencil icon opens the automation in the workflow builder.
- "Show only this network" hides everything except this automation and its direct connections, so you can study one process without the rest of the map. Click the on-screen notice to bring the full map back.
Hovering an automation (without clicking) shows a preview of its most recent messages.
Download an image of the map
Click the download button in the lower-left corner ("Download current view as image") to save a PNG of exactly what's on your screen — the current zoom, position, filters, and any highlighted selection. To capture the entire map, click "Fit map to screen" first, then download.
What counts as a connection
Automations connect when one starts, stops, or feeds another:
- "Starts an automation" action — a contact reaching this action in one automation enters the automation you specify.
- "End other automation" action — a contact reaching this action stops running through the automation(s) you specify.
- Action and trigger pairs — an action in one automation sets off another automation's trigger. Examples: an "Add tag" action paired with a "Tag is added" trigger; an "Update contact" action paired with a "Field changes" trigger; an "Add deal" action paired with an "Enters pipeline" trigger; a "Send email" action paired with an "Opens/Reads an email," "Clicks a link in an email," or "Replies to an email" trigger; a "Subscribe" or "Unsubscribe" action paired with the matching list trigger; a "Jump To" action paired with a "Contact jumped to" trigger; an "Adjust score" action paired with a "Score changes" trigger.
Note that automation triggers are available based on your plan.
Note: On accounts with a very large number of automations, the map draws the most active ones first and shows a notice with how many are displayed. Use search and the filters to bring any specific automation into view.
