With ActiveCampaign, you can use the "Blank" and "Not Blank" operators in the segment builder to locate empty fields in Contact, Deal, and Account records. This lets you see which key pieces of information are missing and can help you tailor your communications.

Take note

Create a search for blank fields

In the example below, we are searching for contacts with an empty last name field.

  1. Click Contacts Contacts icon.to go to the Contacts Overview page.
  2. Click the "Advanced Search" button.
  3. The segment builder will appear. Here you can prompt Active Intelligence to look for contacts with a blank last name field, or you can build your search conditions from scratch.
  4. To build your search conditions from scratch:
    • Click the “Build with segment conditions” option to expand it
    • Click the “Select a condition” field and select “Contact Details” > “Last Name”
    • Click the operator field and select “Blank”
      Segment builder conditions.
  5. Click the "Search" button.

Contacts with blank values for the last name field will appear on the page.

Use Active Intelligence to find blank fields

Instead of building search conditions from scratch, you can have Active Intelligence do it for you.

To do so, click the “Advanced Search” button, type your prompt into the field provided, then hit the “Return” or “Enter” key on your keyboard.

Active Intelligence then translates your prompt into segment conditions and executes the search. You can see your search conditions by clicking the “Build with segment conditions” dropdown. Contacts who meet your conditions display below the segment builder.

Example prompts you can use are:

  • Show me contacts where the “Phone” field is empty
  • Find contacts where [field name] field is blank
  • Create a segment of contacts missing a zip code

Be sure to use the exact name of the field as it appears in your ActiveCampaign account for best results.

Save your search

You can save your advanced search conditions for future use, or save your search as a segment.
