An SMS consent message is required when sending any SMS messages. You must include it wherever you are collecting SMS consent from a contact. In ActiveCampaign, a default SMS consent message will be added to forms that use the “Subscribe by SMS” action. You can edit the ActiveCampaign default SMS consent message.

Take note

  • You must purchase the SMS add-on to use this feature
  • You must have a registered UK or USA number to send broadcast SMS messages
  • You must have explicit consent to send SMS messages to your contacts, and those contacts must subscribe to an SMS list
  • If you intend to send SMS messages to recipients in the USA, you are required to register for A2P 10DLC
  • MMS is only supported in the USA. The UK does not support sending MMS messages

Default SMS consent message in ActiveCampaign

By default, the following SMS consent message is provided in forms that use the “Subscribe by SMS” action:

"By submitting this form and signing up for texts, you consent to receive marketing text messages (e.g. promos, cart reminders) from [Your Company Name] at the number provided. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Msg & data rates may apply. Msg frequency varies. Unsubscribe at any time by replying STOP."

You must update the "[Your Company Name]" placeholder in the default SMS consent message manually. Learn how to edit the default SMS consent message.

Edit the default SMS consent message

When collecting SMS consent from a contact, you must include an SMS consent message. However, you can edit the default message that ActiveCampaign provides with the following steps:

When editing, remember that an SMS consent message must be clear so a contact knows what they are agreeing to before signing up.

  1. Click Website > Forms on the left menu.
  2. Click the form you want to edit or create a new “Subscribe by SMS” form. (link to new article)
  3. In the Form Editor, click the SMS consent message text in the form.
  4. On the right menu, click “Edit Consent Message.”
  5. Edit the SMS consent message as needed.
  6. Click “Save.” The changes will be reflected in the form.

You must have text within the SMS consent message box to save the changes. You cannot have a “Subscribe by SMS” form without the SMS consent message.
