Are name changes automatically reflected in all parts of the platform?

No. When renaming things in ActiveCampaign, you may see different behavior depending on which platform feature you're changing.

In some cases, like when renaming and changing Automation names, those changes will be automatically reflected in the rest of your account. However, in other instances, like when renaming Custom Field Options, you would need to manually change that custom field value in each Contact and every segment condition using that field value in your account.

To help, below is a handy guide/checklist to verify whether name changes in your ActiveCampaign account will occur automatically or if changes need to be done manually.

Generally, anything you select from a dropdown list tends to reflect automatic changes, e.g., Automation names, whereas anything typed out must be manually changed, e.g., Tags. Please use the information below to confirm.

Tags

When you rename a Tag, it will be automatically reflected in Contact Profiles, Segment conditions, and Automation Triggers.

In all other platform areas, including Add/Remove a Tag Automation Actions, Link Actions (in Campaigns), and Conditional Content conditions (Available on Marketing Plus, Professional, and Enterprise.), you must rename those product areas to use the new Tag.

Also, remember that If/Else and Wait Automation Actions use our Segment conditions and will automatically reflect renamed Tags.

The following platform areas will automatically change to reflect a renamed Tag:

  • Contact Profiles
  • Segment/Advanced Search conditions (including If/Else and Wait Automation Actions that use those conditions)
  • Automation Triggers
  • Add/Remove a Tag Automation Actions

The following platform areas will need to be manually edited to reflect a renamed Tag:

  • Link Actions
  • Conditional Content (Available on Marketing Plus, Professional, and Enterprise.)

Custom Fields

When you change the Custom Field Name, the new Custom Field Name is always reflected in other areas of your account. However, changes to the Custom Field Options/Values or the Personalisation Tag are not reflected and must be manually edited.

The following platform areas will automatically change to reflect a renamed Custom Field:

  • Segment/Advanced Search conditions (including If/Else and Wait Automation Actions that use those conditions)
  • Automation Triggers
  • Conditional Content conditions (unless the Personalisation Tag is changed) (Available on Marketing Plus, Professional, and Enterprise.)

The following platform areas will need to be manually edited to reflect a renamed Custom:

  • Segment/Advanced Search conditions
  • Automation Triggers
  • Conditional Content conditions (Available on Marketing Plus, Professional, and Enterprise.)
  • Custom Field Personalization Tags in Campaigns
  • When a Custom Field Personalisation Tag is changed, you will also need to fix any Conditional Content conditions  to use the edited Custom Field

Automation Names

When you rename an Automation, the new name will automatically populate across all areas of your ActiveCampaign account.

All platform areas will automatically change to reflect a renamed Automation, including:

  • Segment/Advanced Search conditions
  • Automation Actions
  • Link Actions

Campaign Names

Available on Marketing Lite, Plus, Professional, and Enterprise.

When you rename a Campaign, the new name for that Campaign will automatically populate across all areas of your ActiveCampaign account.

All platform areas will automatically change to reflect a renamed Campaign, including:

  • Segment/Advanced Search conditions
  • Automation Actions
  • Automation Triggers

Campaign Link URLs

Available on Marketing Lite, Plus, Professional, and Enterprise.

Campaign Link URL changes are never reflected in the rest of your ActiveCampaign account. If you change a Campaign hyperlink’s URL, this will generate a new object for that URL instead (and all your segment conditions, etc., will still be linked to the old URL). All platform areas using the old URL need to be manually changed to use the new URL.

All platform areas will need to be manually edited to reflect a renamed Campaign hyperlink URL, including:

  • Segments/Advanced Search conditions
  • Automation Actions
  • Automation Triggers

General Behavior

  • Anything selected from a dropdown list tends to reflect changes across the account.
  • Anything selected in the segment conditions editor tends to reflect changes.
    • Notable exceptions are Tags (which are generally typed out, except for in Advanced Search and in Automation Triggers) and Campaign Link URLs (which generate a new object for the new URL when the link is changed).
  • Any changes to Custom Field Values also need to be manually accounted for, as well as any changes to a Custom Field's Personalisation Tag (only the Custom Field Name can be expected to automatically reflect changes in other areas of the platform).
  • Automation Names and Campaign Names should generally automatically reflect changes.
