Use Cases

Below are the Contact List Status conditions and possible use cases to help determine what condition will work best for your query.

Contact List Status Condition Use Cases
Is subscribed to list (active)
  • How many active contacts meet this criteria for a possible segment
  • How many active contacts do I have to manage my contact limit
  • How many active contacts do I have to send out a quick email
  • Is there at least one active contact that meets my criteria in any list
Is not subscribed to list (not active)
  • How many contacts do I have that are not active? I want to do something with them
  • Show me all of the contacts that I am not paying for and which are not counting towards my contact limit
  • Show me my contacts who are not subscribed to these specific lists I’ve created; I want to be sure they are not on there
Is unsubscribed from list
  • How many contacts or show me the contacts that have unsubscribed from this list or these particular lists
  • How many contacts or show me the contacts that are currently unsubscribed from any list
Is unconfirmed in list
  • How many contacts are in my database who submitted a double opt-in AC form but never clicked to opt in on the second email - I want to clean these up
Is bounced (hard) from list
  • Which contacts have hard bounced?
Has been added to list
  • How many of my total contacts have been added to a list
Has never been added to list
  • Which contacts are not associated with any list?
  • Which contacts are not getting added to lists automatically?

Selecting one list with the “at least one of” or the “all of” operator will result in the same search as it is only looking for that one list.

Use Cases In Practice

Below are common questions that using a segment with Contact List Status conditions can help answer with the conditions to create these segments.

Do I have a large audience to target in Chicago?

This segment will show the total count of ALL contacts that are currently active (meaning they are subscribed to at least one list and eligible to receive communication) AND that have their location custom field value set to Chicago. This segment allows you to understand the size of the audience you would intend to target in current or future efforts.

  1. Segment for “Is subscribed (active)” then “at least one list.”
  2. Select the AND statement to include your additional condition
  3. Segment for the “Location” custom field then “is” and “Chicago.”
  4. Click search.

Do

How many subscribed (active) contacts do I have in my database

This segment will show the total count of ALL currently subscribed (active) contacts in your database. Remember, your subscribed (active) contacts count toward your contact limit.

Note: You can view this on your ActiveCampaign dashboard using the active filter and also on the contact overview page using the "Status" > "Active" filters.

  1. Segment for “Is subscribed to list (active)” then “at least one list.”
  2. Click search.

How

How can I check for contacts that were missed or never added to any of my lists?

This segment will show the total count of ALL contacts who have never been added to any of your lists. This can happen if you have forms that are missing the action to subscribe contacts to your lists automatically, if you have integrations setup that are missing the step to add to a list, or if you have an API connection pushing contacts in without subscribing them to a list.

  1. Segment for “Has never been added to list” then “Every list.”
  2. Click search.

How

How many contacts are unsubscribed from this particular list or these particular lists?

This segment will show the total count of ALL contacts who are unsubscribed from the particular list(s) you selected.

  1. Segment for “Is unsubscribed from” then “All of,” then select your applicable list(s).
  2. Click search.
